Meet Format

Meet Format

  • Swimmers must arrive one hour before the meet starts.
    • Event and lane assignments are given to swimmers at the pre-meet meeting.
      • Heat assignments are given when there is a large number of swimmers for an event (heat 1 is competition, all others are exhibition only)
        • Our team gets 3 lanes for each event (1,3,5 or 2,4,6)
        • A swimmer may be in up to 3 events in a meet
    • Swimmers do laps to warm up.
  • Meets can take up to three hours to complete.
  • Swimmers who are not competing in the current event:
    • must stay out of the pool
    • must stay clear of the deck
    • must listen for the coaches to announce their event
    • may encourage and cheer for their teammates

The order of events is as follows:

  • Individual Medley (25 yards each stroke)
    • 12 and under girls, then boys
    • 13 - 18 girls, then boys
  • Freestyle
    • 8 and under girls, then boys (25 yards)
    • 9 - 10 girls, then boys (25 yards)
    • 11 - 12 girls, then boys (50 yards)
    • 13 - 14 girls, then boys (50 yards)
    • 15 - 18 girls, then boys (50 yards)
  • Backstroke
    • by age and gender as in freestyle
  • Breaststroke
    • by age and gender as in freestyle
  • Butterfly
    • by age and gender as in freestyle
  • Relays
    • 12 & under Medley girls, then boys (4 swimmers, 25 yards each stroke)
    • 13 & over co-ed Medley (4 swimmers, 50 yards each stroke)
    • 8 & under co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 yards each)
    • 12 & under co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 yards each)
    • 13 & over co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 50 yards each)
